Providing Residential Supports to the Developmentally Disabled
Agency Companion Program
The Agency Companion program is similar to foster care and is considered the highest level of foster care in the state of Oklahoma. Companions provide individualized supports in their own home and community. Renaissance places children and adults with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and/or medical needs in our Companion homes. The individuals are challenging, but the rewards are great.
In the Agency Companion program, there is only one placement per home and they tend to be long-term. Once a Companion has been approved by the state and Renaissance, the matching process begins. This process involves a series of pre-placement visits to ensure that the individual would be a good fit in the Companion home. Because these individuals usually have a history of multiple failed placements, we do our best to ensure that their new home will be successful.
Children can stay in this program past the age of 18, as long as their team agrees that it is an appropriate decision.
Must have an extra bedroom in your home that is at least 80 square feet
In-depth home studies are conducted on all household members, which include fingerprints, background checks, financial and medical stability, a home assessment, and training classes (which are arranged through Renaissance)
We certify only the best families to meet the special needs of the individuals we serve.
Pay and Benefits
Companions receive up to $37,500 annually, monthly room and board and respite.

“We’re committed to making Justin a part of our family, home and community.
As he grows into adulthood, the services and love he has received as a son in
our family has been vital to his quality of life and independence. I would say to
anyone looking into the agency companion program that the challenges are real
but the rewards are greater.” -Penny H.

“We have been taking care of children for 35 years. The most
rewarding has been with the disabled & mentally challenged.
We are the ones that have been blessed by seeing small & large
improvements of the children we have taken care of. Our hearts
go out to the families that have no support with taking care of
their special needs children.” -Pat & Mary C
“Words cannot express the love & joy we have experienced with this boy in our life.
The companion program has enhanced our family. We thought we were reaching
out to help someone in need, little did we know that we were the ones who were
in need. Watching this boy grow has been the best experience in our life. Seeing
him do something for the first time, or a hug from him are all heart stopping
moments—ones we will cherish for life. We are thankful to God for him in our
life and his hugs & kisses let us know he feels the same way.” -Karen P.

"We have had our foster child since August 2009. He is 7 years old. Being able to
provide love, consistency, nurturing, reassurance and boundaries has been very rewarding.
It is not always an easy road, but being able to help a child with special needs understand the
world around him a little better is great motivation to keep going. He is an extremely important
part of our family and we look forward to watching him achieve many goals and milestones.
We are committed to him and his future and are determined to make his life as happy as possible.
He is a blessing to our home and our family!" -Gayle L.
